Moving Moodboard (Ancillary Task)
I wanted to do a moodboard to help pinpoint the themes and aesthetics that I am going to use in my digipak and print advert for said digipak. However, I realised that I already had three moodboards on my blog already, and wanted to branch out and try something new. So instead, I decided to make a 'moving moodboard' in the form of a video, where I take clips from various different media texts and formats to make a short video with the kind of aesthetic I am looking for.
I wanted to capture a melancholy feeling, which is difficult through static images alone, which is why I think that this was helpful to my research. I also wanted to portray her as romantic but 'edgy', which I did using clips from various films, interviews and TV shows that I like. The first clip is from Amélie, which I subtitled for clarity; the second clip is from a 1960s interview with Marilyn Monroe, recorded a few months before she committed suicide and the last audio clip is from a short web-series called 대세는 백합, or Lily Fever (which I have also subtitled for clarity). I included Amélie because it is the moment in which Amélie uses a figure in a painting to talk about her own issues in a guarded way, just like the artist does with her music and persona. I included the Marilyn interview because I think that part of her persona is a melancholy attitude which I researched and found in both Lana Del Rey and Lorde, so I wanted to make it part of my own artist. Finally, I wanted to include the drama Lily Fever because it features an LGBT relationship which as it features prominently in the music video I have decided to imply that the performer is a strong supporter of the LGBT community. Furthermore, I included clips from both Garden City Movement's Move On music video which also features an LGBT couple, and clips from Red Velvet's video Bad Boy which also has implied LGBT characters. I have a much stronger understanding of the direction I want to take my artist's persona in now that I have collected these videos and compiled them.
The song I used is Debussy's Clair de Lune for ambience.
Below are some ideas for makeup and styling that I didn't include in the video because they were too long or in the wrong format. I plan on doing something similar to the original makeup plan, with glossy makeup (which is currently very popular and therefore will appeal to a mainstream audience).
