Editing Log #1

Firstly, we uploaded all of the footage onto Final Cut Pro X from the camera. We ordered the footage and tried to focus primarily on the start of the music video as we didn't have everything that we needed to make a rough edit of everything yet -- we still had some filming left to do. With the live performance, we turned the volume all the way up so that we could hear the music that was playing while we were filming, and then we tried to sync it to the music that we added in post production so that the lip syncing portion was accurate. We also started to work on the text at the beginning, although we later changed this. We added this text because having the artist and song title at the beginning of a music video is a convention of the indie genre. We filtered the clip in the background and made the text bolder so that it was easier to read, because at first it was difficult. We also added a 'scrolling' animation which made the text appear in a more professional way.

To give the live performance interest, we cut between different angles of the live performance and used different shot types throughout. We filmed it from multiple angles for this reason. However, I still found that there wasn't enough variety, so I used the Ken Burns tool to zoom in and pan on some of our existing shots to change them from a wide shot to a head and shoulders for example. I was able to do this and have it still look professional and high quality because the camera that we used was good, so when I zoomed in a lot the quality of the shots didn't decrease.

After having sorted most of the liver performance footage, we began to add in some of the clips that we had already filmed to start constructing a narrative and intercut it with the live performance. These clips were the library scenes, which we placed in the middle of the video.
